In conformation or
"breed" classes, the dogs are compared by a judge to the
breed standard. The judge gives placings to the dogs
according to how closely the dog resembles the
standard. Winners of each class move on to compete
against dogs that have earned the title of "Champion"
for "Best of Breed" at that show. The Gordon Setter
Club of America determines the breed standard. Dog
shows are conducted under the rules of the American
Kennel Club.
North Country
offers breed specialty shows in January and June. The
June Specialty this year was on June 21, 2008, at
the Washington County Fairgrounds in Lake Elmo,
Minnesota. In addition to the regular conformation
classes, sweepstakes for puppies and junior showmanship
were offered. Obedience classes were held at the June
Specialty, too. Chair for this year is Jan Hofer. We
welcome exhibitors, members, volunteers, and all who are
interested in Gordon Setters.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year!
